Color - Purple

Color - Purple

Here are some attics where this sophisticated color was used.

The first image is of an amazing girl's room done in Lilac-purple, green, yellow and coral. Unusual combination - unusual room.  (houzz.com)

Light purple, beige and white are combined to form a country styled guest bedroom (houzz.com).

One accent wall in purple make a dramatic statement in the room wihout overwhelming the eyes. Notice the decals.

Online Bedroom Design Reveal!

Yesterday I had a chance to visit an online design client.
She had won my online design giveaway and happened to be local!
I don't typically get to visit my online clients, so this was a treat.

The room was for two girls, 10 & 12 years old.
We wanted to create a space that would grow with them, but still be young and playful.

The design evolved a lot from our original plan, but I love the way it turned out. I definitely can't take all the credit for this space, my client has great style and really ran with it!

Here is the before:

And the after:

Painting the walls and baseboards transformed the room.

It's amazing what a little contrast will do.

She made the headboards out of Caitlin Wilson's Berry Fleur Chinoise fabric.

I think they turned out fantastic.

I also adore those hanging lanterns!

We were originally planning on a fun painted chevron in the reading nook, but the girls wanted to create a custom design including their handprints.

I love that personal touch.

From what I hear, the hanging bubble chair is the girl's favorite spot, pretty sure it would be mine too.

Take a Look

Via: La Maison De Anna

This 35 sqm flat in Sweden is a great example of how to make the most of small spaces. A white and simple base, lots of hidden storage, clearly defined areas for different functions, and smart and flexible solutions (like the loft bed or the kitchen cabinet on wheels...). And I love how the ladder almost becomes a work of art with Kay Bojesen's wooden monkeys climbing on it!

Sublime rénovation

Via: La Maison De Anna

Pfff...

In general, I prefer renovations where original details of the house have been preserved... But here I will gladly make an exception. The renovation of this former brick vicarage, situated close to Malmö in southern Sweden, is simply stunning. 420m2 of pared down, light and monochrome architecture. Moreover, this beauty is for sale. Sigh...

A Combination Bar, Game Room and Craft Center

Run My Renovation: A Combination Bar, Game Room and Craft Center

From: diynework.com

Before:

It's great to have a bonus room, but not if you don't know what to do with it. These homeowners had trouble deciding – she wanted a scrapbooking room and he wanted a man cave. So, they agreed to let us completely renovate the space -- but we let you decide how we do it. You voted on new cabinets, flooring, wall color and more. Browse through the slides to see what you picked.

Hide-Away Scrapbooking

The crafting corner is tucked away within the raised-panel cabinets that you chose for the homeowners.
For the walls, you voted for a contemporary color palette that includes soft blue and deep brown.

Closet Becomes a Bar

We asked you to pick a fun accessory for the room – either scrapbooking supplies or vintage Rolling Stone magazine covers. You can see what won the vote on the shelf over the bar.

Media Center

We asked you to vote on the pattern of the flooring tile. You chose the style called "popcorn" which is very appropriate for the gaming area.

Gisèle d’Ailly van Waterschoot van der Gracht

Via: somewhere I would like to live

Gisèle d’Ailly van Waterschoot van der Gracht is a woman of the castle. She never learned how to use a stove or how to prepare fried eggs. She simply never had to learn it. She let herself be carried away by the stillness of thick brick walls. Pealing paint from the ceiling, men hiding in the structure of ornaments, fluttering of bird wings, fish bone revealing hooded figures.
Gisèle just turned 100 years old and looks back at a fascinating life. As a child living in the USA she played with Punka-indian friends, eccentric uncles and aunts dominated everyday life at the Austrian family castle, she made numerous paint glass windows for churches, ships, and monasteries. She provided shelter to Jewish Germans during WWII, befriended great artists and writers like Max Beckmann, Adriaan Roland Holst, and Aldous Huxley. For years she lived and worked in Greece, but returned to her canal house in Amsterdam Castrum Peregrini, where she still resides today. Living the life of an artist, Gisèle is a woman of imagination. She still finds herself wondered by this world. via freundevonfreunden
